What is a Contingency Fee?

Attorneys can get paid a few different ways. They may get a retainer upfront, or they may bill hourly. They can also be paid on a contingency fee basis. This means that your attorney getting paid is contingent on there being a settlement. If you don’t get paid, neither does the attorney.

We’ve had clients tell us they didn’t think they could afford an attorney on their case, so they waited to hire one. That can sometimes be damaging to the case. Most personal injury attorneys work on a contingency fee basis, and we do too. We feel this is the most fair way to operate our business. We only get paid if you get paid.

Sometimes clients ask us to work on an hourly basis instead, but when the time breaks down, clients would end up paying more for an hourly agreement vs contingency. We never charge you to have a meeting with us and you’ll never have to pay anything up front.

At Francis Owen, we offer a boutique law firm experience. This means your case is not just another case added to our list of hundreds or even thousands of cases. It means we are motivated to get you the most money possible, and get to know you as a person, not a paycheck. We are always happy to talk through your case and discuss our contingency fee.
