How Long Will My Case Take to Settle?

This is the million dollar question we wish we could answer right off the bat. Unfortunately, we can’t usually answer that question until we start working on a case, and even then, a lot of factors go into how long your case may take to settle.

All case types are governed by a statute of limitations - a timeframe within which a person must settle their case or file a lawsuit. Car crash cases have a 3-year statute of limitations, but other case types have a 2 year limitation or even only one. Put simply, if you don’t settle your case within the proper timeframe and don’t file a lawsuit, you have likely forfeited your right to any type of settlement. That’s why hiring an attorney right away is important. We can help manage all the moving parts and make sure a deadline isn’t missed.

The insurance industry knows that you may be anxious for a fast settlement and they will use that against you and try to make you settle quickly and for a smaller amount.

The insurance company is the one who holds all the cards and controls all the money. This means that your case may take longer to settle than anyone would like. It sucks, and trust us we get it. At Francis Owen, we don’t prioritize “making a quick buck.” We prioritize your emotional and physical recovery so we can ensure that the financial recovery is fair and right.

Other firms might make promises about how quickly they can settle your case. We don’t make these promises because your recovery may not be a linear progression. You might have setbacks. It might take longer than expected for you to “get back to normal” and it wouldn’t be fair to settle your case before then.

We make sure that your wellbeing comes first and we will be the ones to manage the timeline of your case so you can focus on what matters most; healing.
